Pakathon: Changemakers Unite !

Pakathon is a global movement with a mission to connect entrepreneurs, researchers and technologists around the world and support the creation of sustainable projects and companies that make a positive impact in Pakistan and beyond. Pakathon's flagship event is a weekend hackathon held simultaneously across over a dozen cities in Pakistan and North America.

In 2014, Pakathon Toronto held one of the most successful hackathons across the network. Continuing from the overwhelmingly great response and success, Pakathon Toronto is evolving to engage participants year-round and we’re returning with our first event of 2015 leading up to the global hackathon in October.

Our first conversation is about choosing to be a changemaker - and we’re delighted to welcome three champions from Toronto in this conversation:

Moderator - Kamal Hassan, serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and CEO of IncMind and Director of Founder Institute (Toronto): Kamal has explored every side of entrepreneurship and knows more than a thing or two about taking risks in pursuit of a dream. He’ll be talking to Saim, Syeda and Zaki about their stories of driving change.

Saim Siddiqui of ProCheck: Saim worked at a Toronto based start-up before moving to Pakistan to start ProCheck. Along the way, he attended the first Pakathon held in Boston. ProCheck works with manufacturers to provide an SMS based mechanism to establish product authenticity, and improve treatment outcomes through treatment adherence programs.

Zaki Patel and Syeda Zaki of 141schools.org: This husband-wife team set up and run 141schools.org, a Toronto-based not-for-profit on a mission to build 141 schools in Pakistan. They started this campaign as a response to the deadly attack on a school in Peshawar, Pakistan on December 16, 2014 in which more than 141 people died, most of them children. The 141 “Schools For Peace” movement has stirred incredible support, including a global partnership with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) and a rapidly growing community around the world. Zaki is a management consultant and web developer; Syeda is a financial analyst focused on social impact investments
